We are super excited to announce that hockey is returning to Sunderland in 2023 on a brand new hockey pitch at Raich Carter Sports centre.

The club committee has been working with the Council and England Hockey to obtain funding for the new facility which, as well as the new pitch, includes top grade hockey goals (a whopping 6 of them), restored floodlights, storage space for training kit and more!

We would like to thank everyone at Boldon School Sports Centre for providing a temporary home for us whilst there were no hockey facilities available in the city. We very much hope that members who have joined us whilst we have been located at Boldon will follow us to our new home, and that we can take advantage of our new city location to introduce more people to our great sport and continue to grow our fantastic club.

The final work will be completed this week with SBHC officially moving to Raich Carter from Saturday 28th January 2023.

To celebrate the opening of the new pitch there will be a casual "hockey" session taking place on Thursday 26th January, 7-8pm. It would be amazing to see as many faces there as possible, young, old, new to us, new to hockey to have a run around and join in the excitement of our new home.

There is also a weekend FULL of hockey to look forward to with fixtures taking place on both Saturday and Sunday.

Here's what's on...

Thursday 26th Jan: 7-8pm - new pitch run around
Saturday 28th January: 9.30am - 10.30am - junior training
Saturday 28th January: 11am PB - SBHC Ladies vs Durham City 2s
Saturday 28th January: 2pm PB - SBHC Development Team vs Durham City 2s: TBC
Sunday 29th January: 10.30am - 12.30pm - U8, U10, U12 Regional Junior Tournament
Sunday 29th January: 1pm PB - Men's 1s

FAQs

What is the new address?

Raich Carter Sports Centre, Commercial Rd, Hendon, Sunderland, SR2 8PD

Can I get there by public transport?

The nearest Rail station is Sunderland Station and the nearest Metro station is Park Lane. Both are a 20 minute walk from the sports centre. Bus routes 10 and 11 run nearest to the sports centre

Is there parking available?

Yes, there is a good sized free car park at the sports centre.

What other facilities are there on site at Raich Carter?

Raich Carter Sports Centre has on site toilets, showers, gym, café area, swimming pool. Please note - we would ask that parents of juniors under 12 do not leave the pitch area during junior training sessions to use on-site facilities without first notifying one of the coaches.

Will there be any changes to membership and/or match fees?

There are no planned changes to fees this season. Fees will only be reviewed again by the committee in the lead up to the 2023/24 season as they normally would ahead of a new season.

Where will we have teas after matches at Raich Carter?

This is to be confirmed. Raich Carter has a café that can provide teas but currently no licenced bar. The committee is reviewing the options available and will provide further updates in due course.

Any questions please feel free to contact your team captain or the club Secretary Matt Dench...
